İsmimi Bulutlardan Aldım:

This new album from Black Sea Storm was entirely made in Mexico in a nomadic fashion. The writing and recording process occurred in Monterrey, Culiacán, Mazatlán, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, and Querétaro. The band’s challenge in making this album consisted of making a full rock band-sounding record, on the road with limited musical equipment.

In English, the album’s title translates as “I was named after the clouds.” Believing perhaps music comes to us from the universe and takes a journey in the musician’s subconscious before materializing itself through musical instruments. Traveling the world while making music triggers inner travel, which creates a perfect situation to make original music connected to the soul and the outside world. Overcoming the logistic challenge of recording on the go made this album possible and added excitement to the ongoing adventure.

The album was horizontally written and recorded, meaning that all the song backbones were written simultaneously, and all the trackings of different instruments were layered across all songs. More material was left out than kept on the album, embracing the idea of always leaning toward what excites us musically. Not forcing, letting grow what grows naturally, similar to how vegetation grows in nature.

Since “İsmimi Bulutlardan Aldım” was recorded with the touring gear. An acoustic guitar and an SM57 mic were the main components of the recordings. The acoustic guitar as the core element gives this album a unique acoustic progressive rock sound.

About Black Sea Storm:

Black Sea Storm started as a side project in 2002 near the Mexican border in San Diego, California, USA. Its founder Ali Deniz Ozkan at the time was actively playing bass guitar in touring bands in the United States. The band moved to Buenos Aires in 2017 and embraced the nomadic life in 2018. The live performances started the same year, playing on Peru, Chile, and Argentina streets as a street musician.

In 2019 Black Sea Storm played its first official show in Yucatán, Mexico. Since then, the band has performed nearly 50 shows, mainly in Latin America. In 2022 Black Sea Storm went to tour Türkiye and performed 21 concerts in this country. Since November 2022, Black Sea Storm has returned to Mexico to play some shows and record “İsmimi Bulutlardan Aldım.”
