(Release Date January 6th, 2023)
I’ve decided to gather 16 single albums I’ve put out with Black Sea Storm between 2017 and 2022.
After losing my day job in Switzerland, I moved to Argentina on January 23rd, 2017, to open a coffee shop. As for music gear, I’ve only taken my bass guitar and a bunch of cables with me. After six months in Buenos Aires, I had enough to play my bass without any amplification, so I decided to invest a portion of my money for the coffee shop project into buying an electric guitar and a sound card. I first recorded a song called “Biten Dün,” probably the Black Sea Storm song I am least proud of. Nonetheless, it had the merit of getting me back on the recording track.
The second song I recorded in Buenos Aires was Baharlarda, which became the most streamed Black Sea Storm to date a couple of years after its release.
In 2018 I gave up the idea of opening a coffee shop in Argentina and decided to live my life on the road across Latin America. I started playing as a street musician and later started playing legitimate shows.
Since I started my nomadic life, I’ve been releasing singles one after another. After five years, I visited Argentina 8, Chile 2, Uruguay 3, Peru 2, Guatemala 1, and Mexico 5 times. I could now pick 16 of the released singles and turn them into a full-length album. Presented in this form, they became my sonic travel journal.
I’ve written and recorded all those songs in Airbnb apartments, hostels, and friends’ apartments. However, this album has nothing new under the sun in terms of content since all the tracks have already been released as singles. Putting them all together has, in my opinion, a different impact when presented as a full length.
I also see this album as a milestone of me revolving five times around the sun while constantly traveling Latin America and producing music in nomadic conditions. I hope you’ll enjoy this album that wrote itself on the road. Please share it if you happen to like it.
