And the chorus comes in at 1 min 12 secs

I am very pleased to announce the release of a new Black Sea Storm song “Günün Sonunda” after approximately 43 days of releasing “Uruguay“. The creative process has gained some momentum as the weather is getting colder here in the south of the southern hemisphere. Going back and forth to Uruguay (the neighboring country this time) has definitely been a source of inspiration for me. The sky seems somehow bigger in Uruguay, and the way sunlight projects itself on Earthian objects has a tendency to make me perceive them as if they were out of a 35mm reel.

….Yessss the chorus does come in soon after a minute. It will hit back at 2 min 30 sec, doubled this time. “Günün Sonunda” has two different bridges, three verses, one pre-chorus, and it lasts for a total of 3 minutes and 35 seconds. I feel a bit like a car salesman to talk about a song in these terms. This is probably the most flirtatious Black Sea Strom got with the pop rock radio format. I may be wrong on this, but this is my perception of the new song at this moment in time, as the dish freshly came out of the oven.

I would jokingly plead not guilty and say it wasn’t really my fault, since I am never able to write the songs I would like to write. It’s more the actual songs knocking at my door, or sometimes just smashing it, the way “Günün Soununda” did. As I probably mentioned it in earlier posts, in my songwriting experience with Black Sea Storm, songs tend to write themselves, more than me writing them. I usually tend to act more like a router, a switch, or a simple witness, more than a creating entity. “Günün Sonunda” was actually in third position in a queue of song ideas to eventually become releasable songs. Somehow it made its way to the front of the line.

The Creative Gas Tank

Things need to be happening in my life in order for me, metaphorically speaking, fill up my gas tank for creativity. Since I don’t really consider myself being a musician, but rather a person who keeps a personal journal through music, I need for that matter to have things happening in my life in order to be able to say something musically.  I’m not only talking about the lyrics or the story a song may tell. I see music as a medium of transmitting emotions. In order for me to do so, I need to experience emotions first in my life. It’s an input, assimilation, and output process which tend to happen on two different temporal levels for me.

  • The first one is a short term one. Everything the nervous system had to endure during a day can be fueled towards creativity. Ten or twelve hour work shifts can be great in that sense, if I can make it to the practice space afterwards and rock the hell out.
  • The longer term one is a bit more complicated and somehow more “freudianish” kind of situation, where the songwriting process acts like an awaken dream, and helps me to deal with emotions lived in the past and resolve things and move forward. As if some impactful memories are finally being processed by the brain with music helping the mind along the way, and the memories fueling creativity.

More Romance Less School

With that dynamic in mind, attending music school, or practicing an instrument all day does not do me that much good to come up with song ideas that will eventually interest me and motivate me to move forward with this adventure. What I need, is to have a life and live a constant romantic and exciting journey. This is of course all subjective, its more about how I perceive the actual journey more than the true nature of the journey. In a way, I need to fool myself into thinking that I have an extremely romantic life, even if the objective reality could be far from it.  I’ve been putting together a new plan to take the romantic aspect of my life to the next level.

My Quest for Romance in Order to Refill the Tank

The plan without revealing it entirely at this moment, will first consist of emptying the creative tank as much I can by researching song ideas in the upcoming weeks. And this up to the point where nothing that interests me comes out of my solo jam sessions. After that, I have the ambition to fill up the tank with amazing experiences. It’s impossible to predict what could happen in life, all that being said, I believe I can always set the stage, so that exciting and unpredictable things are most likely to happen. I remind myself everyday that I am here on this planet for a limited time only. The project of trying to refill the tank with some premium grade gasoline is what has been exciting me the most lately.

Will songs that interest me and make Black Sea Storm move forward result out of the experience? I really don’t know at this point. I don’t think it should be the main purpose anyway. My duty as a person who believes in romance and adventure, is to live this life to its fullest to the best of my abilities, and fill in the tank as much as I can with memorable experiences. Moving to South America from Europe was a major step towards not only filling up the tank, but upgrading its capacity as well. Now I think it’s time to take the adventure a step further. I will of course share anything exciting that happens, here on this blog as long as its relevant to the Black Sea Storm journey.

Spotify Playlists

There’s been a number of music lovers adding Black Sea Storm to their playlists on Spotify lately. I could never thank them enough to support this project. All the playlists which I am aware of, I list them on the Black Sea Storm Spotify page, and I will happily list them on this blog as well. The only problem I am having is that I don’t know them all. From the Spotify artist’s stats page, I can see that Black Sea Storm is on about 30 playlists, but the same page will only display the names of six or seven of them out of the 30. I will do my very best to support and promote playlists which happen to host Black Sea Storm. Feel free to let me know if you have Black Sea Storm songs on any of your playlist, that way I can discover your playlist, enjoy it, and return the favor at my very humble level. A big thank you to all of you who take the time to listen to the songs and read the posts! It is truly a great source of  extra motivation to pursue this adventure.
